UAW Will Work for Food

After getting punted by Congress, President Bush took the bold step in formulating aid to the ailing US Auto Companies higher than that being debated by congressional leaders. The provisions of this bailout are harsh, but in these tough economic times, tough decisions are called for.

However, the UAW calls it ‘unfair’. (Click Here for Story). Kind of reminds me of a person standing at the side of the road asking for money for food and when you offer to take them into a restaurant to buy them food, they decline your help.

While I can empathize with the UAW to some degree, I just don’t get it …

Joe the Plumber Gets Poetic Justice

I’m encouraged that in Ohio, Joe the Plumber is getting poetic justice with respect to the invasion of privacy exercised by over-zealous supporters of President-Elect Obama. News (Click Here for Story) out yesterday that Helen Jones-Kelley has resigned and 2 others have been suspended indefinitely is positive news for any American who is concerned about individuals overstepping their bounds.

Obama’s Cabinet Filling with Senators

I have to question the wisdom of not only our President-Elect, but of the people who are applauding the selections.

President Bush’s approval rating stands around 29% (USA Today Poll 12/12-12/14, 2008). A report from CNN back in May 2008 says that at 28% it reflected the lowest presidential disapproval rating of all time. [CNN Article Link].

To quote from that article:

“Bush’s approval rating, which stands at 28 percent in our new poll, remains better than the all-time lows set by Harry Truman and Richard Nixon [22 percent and 24 percent, respectively], but even those two presidents never got a disapproval rating in the 70s,” Holland said. “The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 67 percent disapproval in January 1952.”

Of course, as history tells us, Truman is now considered one of the Top 10 Presidents of all time!

So, with that said, how is it that the dysfunctional body like Congress, who has an overall approval rating of 18.4 (RealClearPolitics Poll Link) should produce such a well-respected set of Executive Branch members?

Why does the UAW get a free pass from Congress?

I’ve never understood why the 3 CEO’s had to sit in front of Congress, but the UAW President did not. The UAW is as much a part of the problem as they are the solution.
